Visiting Abu Dhabi: Water Essentials

Coming to Abu Dhabi and want time on the water? When to come, what to bring, and the few local basics worth knowing before you ride.

When to come

October to April is the sweet spot: warm days, cool evenings and calm seas. This is also when the city is at its liveliest. May to September is hot, but the water is at its warmest and early-morning rides are spectacular, and quieter.

Book water activities for your first full day if you can. You will get your bearings on the city from the sea, and if the wind ever shuffles a schedule, you still have days in hand.

What to bring

Swimwear, sunscreen, sunglasses and a towel. We provide life jackets, a full safety briefing and dry storage for phones and valuables, and our crew shoots photos while you ride, so you can leave the camera in the bag. A rash guard helps in summer; in winter a light layer for the ride back is enough.

Good to know

The currency is the UAE dirham (AED). English is widely spoken everywhere you will go. Abu Dhabi is relaxed by regional standards, but respectful dress is appreciated away from the beach and the marina: cover shoulders and knees in malls and public areas.

On the water, the rules are simple: listen to the briefing, stay with your guide’s line, and never chase wildlife. The captains will position you for the best views without disturbing it.
